i adore creating weird little (often humorous) experimental games. here are some of them:
Stinky’s Basement
Created for Global Game Jam 2024 where the prompt was: “Make Me Laugh”
I decided to turn this prompt in on itself and create a small VR experience for Oculus Quest where every attempt at cheering up a sad little alien creature only makes things worse, to hilarious effect for the player. Developed solo over the 5 day jam, it is a short, surreal, vaguely psychedelic romp that can be completed in under half an hour. I ran out of time creating a standalone build and the game must be played via Quest Link for Windows.
Every Time I Think About Stopping…
Initially started as something completely different for the 7 DAY FPS JAM, that unfortunately the initial group was unable to finish. I came back to the messy heap of the game over holidays and decided to let it take itself where ever it wanted to go.
The result is an odd story featuring my own narration about the struggles of collaboration, motivation, and finding meaning in the process of creating digital art. I will be the first to admit it is unabashedly, heavily inspired by The Beginner's Guide.
3D Mark Game
An absurd, humorous, existential romp through the surreal interpretations of friendship, 3D Mark Game is a solo project designed specifically as a birthday present for a friend. The player is tasked with finding Mark in every level and punching him to death.
Developed rapidly in Unity with audio handled by FMOD, the game embodies an example of improvisational game design which Alexander discussed on an episode of Dirty Rectangles via Twitch stream.
Frank
Frank is a short, experimental game about dying in a nursing home. It was inspired by the experiences of my own grandfather.
Developed in Unity, the game sees players managing their boring existence in a nursing home, with the very simple mechanics of feeding and bathing becoming increasingly difficult as the in-game “days” progress. When the player chooses to go to “sleep”, they experience a series of surreal, first-person dreamstates.
